Press Release
Taken Berlin-based electronic virtuoso Sascha Ring’s fourth album, “The Devil’s Walk” which has caused quite a stir amongst critics and fans alike. A stylistic departure from his techno mainstay, the album is full of brooding beauty, soulful vocals and ambient tempo and the stand out new single ‘Candil de la Calle’ showcases this expansion of musical vision.
Apparat enters a terrain of sparse dub rhythm, elegant strings and floating vocals; “Long have I waited here for nothing to come, a sequence of twisted turns that can’t be undone.” Though the lyrics are sombre the song’s Spanish title (which is reflective of time spent in Sayulita Mexico where much of the album was written) is suggestive of light, or more explicitly a candle in a dark street.
The overall effect is intoxicating; and the single coaxes its listeners to surrender to its melancholy whilst also uplifting them with hope and ethereal beauty.
The single comes backed with a dub remix by Sascha himself, a remix by Austrian Fennesz, who has recently remixed Oneohtrix Point Never, Nine Inch Nails and Miracle, and a Black Water reworking by Hamburg’s DJ Koze aka Stefan Kozalla, a Kompakt recording artist whose previous remix credits include Caribou, Battles, Matthew Dear and Bob Sinclair.
