Drumcorps - Falling Forward

Press Release
Few works have been as eagerly awaited as Drumcorps’ second album. Coming out nine years after "Grist" (Ad Noiseam adn70, 2006), "Falling Forward" looks to the future while staying true to the project's heavy guitar music roots. Dense riffs, vocals, melody, guest musicians, and a diverse array of modern electronics combine with concise songwriting to form a complete work of integrity. The result is powerful, cohesive, tender, and in a class of its own: keeping all the elements which made "Grist" a success and taking them forward, confirming Drumcorps’s position as not only a perfectionist, but also an innovator.
Raised in suburban Massachusetts, Aaron Spectre (Drumcorps) was fortunate to fall into the area's burgeoning heavy music scene, playing drums in local bands and helping friends organize events. Bands like Converge, Cave In, and Nine Inch Nails were big inspirations during this time. At a host of all-ages shows, under the bright fluorescent lights, Aaron learned firsthand the effects of community, soul, honest work, and an independent spirit. He's brought this ethic into electronic music from day one, and "Falling Forward" is a progression on that path.
Drumcorps's "Grist" debut won critical acclaim (as did the very different but equally profound "Lost Tracks" album released under the Aaron Spectre moniker). Its heavily sampled and remangled hybrid sound resonated at concerts all over the world, with intense live shows building a fiercely devoted fanbase crossing many scenes. In "Falling Forward", Aaron makes the transition from studio wizard to frontman, recording most elements from scratch, standing and delivering in his own voice. The album also brings along a host of collaborators who are legends in their own right.
Speaking of guests: Mike Justian (Madball) graces three tracks with his powerful and soulful drumming, which was captured faithfully by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at GodCity Studio. Leo Miller (Animosity) contributes his trademark heavy vocal on two tracks, inspired by the sessions the two did following "Altered Beast" (a Drumcorps / Animosity collaborative record, 2008), and the now legendary set at the band's final show in San Francisco. Iggor Cavalera (Ex-Sepultura, Mixhell) even provided his hardhitting drums, specially recorded for "Falling Forward" in Sao Paulo.
