CygnosiC - CygnosiCPress ReleaseOriginally signed just 3 years ago as a "wild card" for the second album "Fallen", CYGNOSIC has rapidly risen through the ranks of the DWA roster to become the label's biggest success story to date.
Within less than 12 months of release, the 2013 follow-up album "Fire And Forget" had already completely eclipsed the best-selling "Fallen" (2011) in terms of digital revenue by an astonishing 700% - sales no doubt driven in no small part by the massive popularity of the song "Mad Desire", which as the official soundtrack to Miguel Valenzuela's eponymous Calum von Moger bodybuilding video has registered close to 3 million plays on YouTube and sold over 2,500 copies on iTunes, Amazon etc...as well as being streamed on Spotify over a quarter of a million times...
Following on from the steadily phenomenal sales and subsequent complete sellout of "Fallen", that album was reissued in an extended 2CD format alongside a completely rerecorded and remastered collector's edition of the out-of-print 2009 debut album (for BLC Recordings) "A Deity In Pain"...both of which have now almost sold out too.
So now, following nearly 2 years of touring across Europe - taking in numerous major music festivals and culminating this June in a triumphant appearance on the main stage of the largest scene festival in the world Wave Gotik Treffen - the bar has therefore been set quite spectacularly high for this, the self-titled 4th album by CYGNOSIC.
Musically, unsurprisingly, it does not disappoint - fans of what has now become CYGNOSIC's instantly recognisable style will find everything they have always loved and more in the distinctive dark electro on offer here. This, truly, definitively, IS "CygnosiC".
Yet as with "Fire And Forget" before it, for this his 4th album Greek songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Georg Psaroudakis has introduced new iterations into his mathematically-composed electronic music, reflecting perhaps an increasing interest in more traditional sounds - ranging from the harpsichord arpeggios of the COIL-esque "We" (a feel pre-figured by the closing instrumental passage "Until Glory" on "Fire And Forget") to the 80s goth guitar of "Under The Rain" and “Real Thoughts”.
With nods like this to THE SISTERS OF MERCY - and to PARADISE LOST or TOOL with the sound and structure of album-opener "The Key" and depressive "A Place In The Sun" - Psaroudakis reaches back to his pre-CYGNOSIC metal roots to present us once more with something similar yet different to his previous offerings, alongside poppier uptempo electro cuts like "Now Is The Time" or “Miles Away” and the signature slow grind of "Pitch Black". The real challenge here lies less in what to feel about this perfectly-produced album itself than in what new ways we can find to package and promote it. Well... :-)

A complete 2nd album's worth of tracks from "CygnosiC", "Fire And Forget" and "Fallen", all reimagined and rerecorded as full-on rock songs by Georg Psaroudakis on all instrumentation - in a brilliant and completely unexpected return to his pre-CYGNOSIC roots in the infamously hardcore Greek metal scene.
This collector's edition offers a fresh and fascinating insight into the influences and songwriting process behind CYGNOSIC itself. Fan favourites like "Realize" and "Blindfold" from "Fallen, "Mad Desire" and the single "Crawl" from "Fire And Forget" among others rub shoulders with metal interpretations of hits-in-waiting from the new album such as "Promachos" and "The Key".
This 2CD Limited Edition comes superlatively packaged in a 6-panel digifile - printed in black on pitch black cardstock - with twin 6-page folding lyric booklets (one for each album, one black and one white), topped off with an outer O-card sleeve, strictly limited to 250 copies worldwide.
