When I finished Industrial Music a few months ago I thought it would be interesting if I asked someone else to put together a remix album for me, having them pick who would specifically remix each track. I asked Bruce and Alex from the I DIE: YOU DIE website to curate it because I always appreciated their tastes: sometimes "mainstream Our Thing", sometimes more eclectic Our Thing. It was their idea to do a track-by-track version of the album, which I haven't seen done in quite some time. They brainstormed a list of artists that they'd like to see tackle specific tracks and sent it to me, then I reached out to the artists to beg the favor.
Honestly, many of these artists I either didn't know personally, or had only heard (of) them through places like ID:YD. I've been ecstatic with the results from each of them and thank them profusely for joining in on the album. Massive thanks to Alex and Bruce for indulging me in my good bad ideas, too. I hope you enjoy Industrial Remixes as much as we do and become a fan of a few other artists because of it.
Thanks for checking this out. Spread the word if you could, as this stuff is underground for a reason. Let's keep it there.

Caustic - Faux Caus

This album is a Caustic album not by Caustic. Each of the artists tried to make what they thought a Caustic track sounded like. Should I be insulted or flattered? No damn idea, but the results were pretty damn cool and I thank every one of the artists for helping out for this fun little project.
This is a pay what you want download, but if you DO pay for it know that all the proceeds for the first MONTH of sales will go to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation (www.sophielancasterfoundation), which promotes understanding and respect for subcultures in communities, so toss the compilation a couple bucks and I'll toss them a couple bucks...after Paypal fees. Stupid Paypal fees...
(I'm also saying the first month so I can ideally send one big chunk-- sales usually diminish after the first month. I'll send donations in periodically after that. I'm not keeping any of this:))

It's often the case that when an artist has a critical and commercial success with an album that they hide in the safety of those formulas for their follow-up. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Caustic's Matt Fanale is not that artist. Call it stupidity, call it bravery, or call it both, but Caustic's follow-up to the popular club stomp of 2011's The Golden Vagina of Fame and Profit is the massive 18 track, 75-plus minute musical extravamaganza The Man Who Couldn't Stop, loosely inspired by each of the 18 chapters of the classic, awesomely mega-pretentious James Joyce novel Ulysses.
And yes, the appropriate response is "Uh...what?" Bear with us...
So you may ask yourself "Did Caustic make an awesomely mega-pretentious concept album?" Heck no-- that's way too much work. Caustic just wanted the challenge of using another work to be the inspiration for an album, and Ulysses was the most ridiculously amusing one he could think of.

Here's the deal on "White Knuckle Head Fuck": Caustic decides to mess with Faderhead, his comrade-in-destroying-industrial, by writing a joke "Faderhead" song. He then ups the ante by getting Faderhead to actually produce it and add some guest vocals to the album version, but here's the warped twist-- the lyrics and massive hook are all about kicking booze and dealing with the depressing fallout of his alcoholism.
Then, true to Caustic's ridiculousness, it becomes his big club hit...assumedly because, per the assertion on the previous single "666 on the Crucifix", nobody pays attention to the damn lyrics anyway.
So yeah, leave it to Caustic to write an industrial "I Will Survive", but the d-bag boyfriend is a bucket of 40 ouncers and a bottle of Jagermeister.
White Knuckle Head Fuck boasts remixes from many of industrial's top talents-- Aesthetic Perfection, FabrikC, iVardensphere, and Leaether Strip's legendary Claus Larsen as his alter ego Klutae. It's also got a batshit insane remix from Boole, a hybrid version of the track combining Caustic's original mix and Faderhead's produced version, and a bouncy bonus track about a cat puking. Seriously, what more could you ask for?
And it's all out around the holiday season. Ho ho ho, bitches.

Few artists in modern industrial have enjoyed maniacally giving the finger to the genre and all of its outdated, bullshit clichés as much as Caustic. As a result they were invited to play shows with artists such as Combichrist, Hocico, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Atari Teenage Riot and Babyland, enthralling the masses with anarchic, destructive live shows leaving the stage and audience drenched in sweat, booze, and other undisclosed fluids than most people care to even remember. Described by Side-Line as "...an enormous revolution: a will of true individualism and a welcome originality", Caustic has careened from album to album and song to song like each one is his new ugly baby to sell on the black market. While the previous album was a sort of ‘low-fi, do it yourself industrialpunk experiment’, this new album is a straight up, polished club disc. Why? Plain and simple: It's fun. And to Caustic it was way more important than worrying if the grumpy underground masses will "accept" it. And since when was acceptance something industrial ever cared about?
